IB Language A1 Paper 2 is a timed analytical essay exam requiring comparison/contrast analysis of selected works in a genre study. This WebQuest helps students prepare for that exam by creating a Study Guide.

Teacher Introduction

This lesson was designed to help International Baccalaureate students prepare for a Language A1 English Paper 2 exam, which is a timed writing in which students are asked to compare and contrast literary works they have studied. I have provided them with links to sample Paper 2's, advice on literary analysis and comparison/contrast arguments. They'll also investigate links that provide different ways to take notes and present information for study. They will then design their own Study Guides to help them prepare for this timed writing exam.

In particular, my students are studying Ceremony, Heart of Darkness, and The Scarlet Letter. I have given them links to background information and literary criticism on each of these works to supplement their reading and give them material to use in their Study Guides and their analyses.
