In this webquest students will learn about the author Tomie dePaola. The children will first pretend that they are reporters and will learn about Tomie. They will then write a paragraph about where Tomie got his ideas to write one of his books. Next, students will be authors themselves and like Tomie write about an event that has happened in their lives that they would like to share with their friends.
Teacher Introduction
This webquest is intended to be used with students during a Tomie dePaola author study. Students will learn about Tomie and his writing technique of using his own family's stories as the inspiration for many of his wonderful books.
Teachers might find it helpful to be studying Tomie dePaola during their reading and writing workshops in their classrooms while working on this webquest. Some mini-lessons that might be helpful in the classroom could include main idea, finding details, descriptive language, paragraphing, note-taking, and having a strong beginning, middle and end.
