This Webquest is to be used to enhance the learning of students while preparing to perform Jack Stamp's Chorale Prelude: Be Thou My Vision. In this Webquest, students will research traditional Irish folk music and become familiar with the instruments used in that genre. The students will compose a 16 measure piece in the this style using three traditional Irish instruments.

Introduction

In order to correctly perform Jack Stamp's Chorale Prelude: Be Thou My Vision, it is important to understand the original composition and the elements that Stamp used while composing the piece. Part of learning about the music is understanding the styles used in composing. One way to do that is to make your own music by temporarily becoming a particular artist, seeing the world as they saw it in the time they were composing pieces such as this. The students also study the instruments used in the time period and analyze folk tunes.
