In this webquest, students will experience through journaling, games and simulation the 1919 Black Sox baseball cheating scandal. Students will learn to view historical events in context by learning about events leading up to and resulting from the cheating scandal.

Introduction

Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so.

We all wish we could be someone else for a little while. On Halloween, for example, part of the fun is just this pretending. Guess what? We can have fun with school subjects this way by putting ourselves in someone else's head for a little while. In this WebQuest, you are going to pretend to be a figure in the events surrounding the 1919 World Series. You may become a "crooked" ball player (like Shoeless Joe Jackson), a gambler (like Arnold Rothstein), a member of the press, or a prosecuter during this dark time for our national pastime.
