PAINTING THE PICTURE

You will now embark on your journey to 1919. First, you'll need to acquiant yourself with the setting of our tale. A handout will be provided. Please refrence your answers at least three times in your in your diaries!

Next, we will use the internet to meet the players, gamblers, and other key figures that contributed to the Black Sox scandal. Break into groups of two. Click on the hyperlinks to get started. Mark your answers down in your guides. Discuss!

Did the players deserve to be banned for life?

In a large group we will discuss and come to a consensus on the following topics:

Who were the brains behind the fix? How did the players "throw" the World Series? Do you believe Chick Gandil? Were the players manipulated buy the gamblers? What factors contributed to their choice to cheat? What role did the press play in the exposure of the fix? What role did Kid Gleason play? What does it mean to be betrayed? Who was betrayed by the players? Was Judge Landis right?

DIARY WRITING

We are now ready to complete our diary entries. Remember to reference your handouts. Reflect on the emotions, the setting, and the mood of your people on each day. Take a look at some pictures of our characters for inspiration.
