The purpose of this WebQuest is to guide students in researching an itinerary for a trip to see the most important civil rights sites in the South. Students will be required to research, synthesize, and evaluate information, as well as to prepare a final product that will be presented to the class.

Introduction

In its complex past, the American South has been a place of beauty and a place of terror. It's a place where great acts of inhumanity occur side-by-side with great acts of courage. The Civil Rights Movement is a story of all of those things -- beauty and terror, inhumanity and courage -- and the primary setting of that story is the American South.

In this WebQuest, you and your classmates will find the stories and their settings that make up this critical freedom struggle.
