Teacher Process

The teacher should introduce the webquest and offer guidance, but studetns should be able to work their way through with a partner and only some teacher guidance.

Students are working at computers, either both on their own or on the same computer depending on availability and preference.  Students will need a folder with extra notebook paper and a pencil at all times.  This will help them keep their materials organized and to always be prepared for what comes next.

I would give at least two 45-minute lab sessions to start the webquest and get through Process 1.  Additional time may be needed as listening to the "I Have a Dream" speech is nearly 20 minutes and is highly worth the time.

The Process 2 will take approximately two 45-minute lab sessions as well if students are really exploring the resources.  You may need to prompt students to move on if they are lagging behind, however.

Process 3 requires you to have already taught the persuasive skills lesson found on this page.  Once the lessons are compete I would also give two lab sessions to ensure time for planning, revising, and publication.  This does depend on your students typing skills.

Before doing this webquest with your students, it would be very wise to test it out in your computer lab.  Considering some schools block websites while other do not, and some allow Real Time Player, Flash, and other media programs, you may discover your computers are not set-up for it.  If this is the case, see if you can do the free downloads to all the computers as there will be lots of valuable information lost if students are unable to view it.

Check out the Teacher Resources page for additional ideas, including how to adapt for older/younger students.

Enjoy!
