This WebQuest is designed to explore the current trend of obesity amongst children in America. Students will be researchers working for the school's cafeteria to promote healthy living, educating the community about obesity, and developing a healthy school menu. We will review multiple points of view in order make recommendations for solutions to this problem.

Introduction

Attention students.  Ms. Fatty Patty, from the cafeteria, has just announced that she will not be returning to this school next year.  Mr. Principal has decided that he wants to take this as an opportunity to completely revamp our cafeteria menu.  He is concerned with the growing epidemic of obesity amongst children in America, and he wants to ensure that children at our school are well-edeucated about the causes of obesity, as well as solutions.  But, Mr. Prinicpal needs your help to do this.

He has asked you to form groups of research teams to find out the following:

What is causing obesity?

How do you prevent obesity?

What do we need to include in our lunch menu to ensure that it is healthy?

Once you have gathered this information, you and your research team will then be asked to create a healthy menu for one week for the school cafeteria.  You will also have to include a letter, to be sent home to parents, describing what you have found out about childhood obesity and why it is important for our school to have a healthy lunch program.
