Introduction

How would you like to take a 2000 mile, cross-country trip with your family---with no iPod, no air conditioning and no on-board navigation system? What about no paved roads, no McDonalds, and no restrooms? And, as a matter of fact, no car?  Well, in 1843, a group of about 1000 people began such a trip westward toward Oregon; some on foot, some in wagons. Some turned back. Many died along the way. What cities and stops did they encounter along the way? How did the flora and fauna affect their trip? Why did they choose to make such a treacherous trip? What happened along the way? What was the impact on the United States? You will answer these questions as you embark on the journey along side these pioneers gathering information. You will then share their stories by creating a webpage.

So, pack up your gear, put on your best walking shoes, and get ready to share in the adventure of the Oregon Trail!
