Introduction

What
makes our country work? Our
United States democracy has been
successful for over 200 years. Much of this is because of the way we select our
leaders. In lots of countries around the world, leaders are determined by who controls
the army! In the
United States our process has been a
peaceful one since the election of our first president, George Washington! In
this unit you will get to explore how Americans vote, who they vote for and why
they choose to vote the way they do!
Our
2008 Presidential Election is less than 100 days away! Do you know the names of the candidates that
are running for President of the
United States? Do you know the two major
political parties these candidates represent?
Would you recognize the symbols used to represent them? Do you know
where they stand on the issues that are important to Americans? Do you know what the issues are? In this curriculum web you will be working
independently and with others to discover all the latest information about our
candidates, their political parties, and the issues facing our country today!
