Students research historical facts for the setting of the novel "Of Mice and Men". They present their findings in the form of a TV panel interview.



Steinbeck is a master story teller. He uses his life experiences and those of his friends to inspire his storytelling. This web quest is going to let you experience some of the events and characters that shaped Steinbecks early years. Understanding Steinbeck's life will help you gain insight into some of the themes and characters from the novel, as well as help connect you with the natural setting of the story.

The setting for "Of Mice and Men" is the Imperial Valley of Northern California.  The action takes place during the great depression of the 1930's. Students who successfully complete the quest will better understand what it was like to live during the great depression.
