Process

Research/Choosing Art:  Websites will be provided from which you will choose which works of art you want to include in your gallery guide to the exhibit. Reflect on the most significant information in the "American's Move West Notes" and "The American West Individual Text Work."

                                                                                Websites:

History of the American West (Note: You need to search this site by keyword or phrase. Also, this site has artwork from a later time period, 1860-1920, so you won't find any representations of Fur Trappers/Traders)

Pioneer Camera

Transcontinental Railroad Exhibits

Images of Fur Trade History

Art of the Gold Rush

Gold Rush Images

Murals in the Westward Expansion Corridor

Process / "Viewing Art" Chart:  Completing the chart will take you through the process of observation and analysis.

Note: When you print your pictures from the computer lab they will be in black and white so if color is of importance to your descriptions and analysis then you should consider printing pictures at home or completing your chart while viewing the picture on the computer.

3. Final Product: Gallery Guide

a.  Drafts of Narratives:  Using your Viewing Art Chart, you will create a well-developed narrative for each picture that explains the piece and how it tells the story and significance of that topic within the American West.

 b. Project Assembly: Use format provided in class.
