Students will explore different types of folksongs throughout history, and their effects on the world. After analyzing a broad spectrum of persuasive music, they will write their own lyrics in folk style. We will include several different styles of folk music. These include war protests, social protests, and environmental concerns. Students' lyrics will reflect a specific problem in their world.

Introduction

Have you ever wanted to change your world? Throughout history, countless people have expressed a valid concern for their society, their environment, or their rights through musical rebellion. After exploring various types of folk music around the world and its effects, you will be given the opportunity to write you own song. What would you like to change? How will you express this change? What has worked in the past, and what has been ineffective? You be the judge.
