Students will begin by examining criteria for evaluating the reliability of Internet Websites, then they will select reliable websites to do research on Ancient Greece - specifically researching Athens and Sparta. As a final project the students will determine which citystate was a better place to live, Athens or Sparta and will cite their research as proof of their point.
Introduction
The Parthenon on Acropolis in Athens, Greece
Welcome to Ancient Greece archeologists in training! I'm sure you have never known anything quite like it! For one thing, the computer you are using right now doesn't even exist in Ancienct Greece. Neither does the Internet. In Ancienct Greece you would need to ask a historian when you had a question about what happened in the past. If they didn't know the answer you were out of luck! But times have changed and our ways of finding information have also changed. Since we live in the time of the Internet and we can send and receive ideas and information around the world in seconds we need to learn how to use the Internet correctly to do research.
This WebQuest will take you on two different, but related adventures. To begin with, you will explore the world of the Internet. It is big, it can be scary, and if you don't know how to use it, you will not get the answers you are looking for. But we are going to learn how to use the Internet as a tool to learn and explore. After that, we will use that tool to uncover some remnants of information that the ancient citystates of Athens and Sparta have left for us.
So bring your fingers for typing and your brain for thinking! Get ready to do some digging into Ancient Athens and Sparta!
