Students will investigate the history of commonly used units of measurement,convert from one unit to another within the same system of measurement, create a scale drawing, design a new unit to measure length, and write a persuasive letter defending the adoption of their new unit.
Introduction
The National Council of Mathematics and Science are tired of using customary and metric units of measurement. They heard someone discovered a new unit of measurement to determine length. They are offering a $1,000,000 reward to the lucky person.
