The WebQuest asks the student to research his or her heritage to find the origins of family traditions and customs.

Introduction

The festive table is set.    The ham smells  finger licking good.  The smell of lightly buttered hot rolls and sweet yams calls to me.  The fruit salad  and Great-Grandma's  Lebkuchen  cookies sit invitingly  in their dishes just waiting to be gobbled up.    We all gather around the table and wait.  What are we waiting for?  In  my family, it is tradition to wait to eat until Dad has sat down and we all have said grace together.  What are some of the traditions you have in your family?    The recipe for Great-Grandma's Lebkuchen cookies has been passed down from generation to generation.  She was born and raised in Germany many, many years ago.  It is our custom in our family  to eat them during the Christmas holiday.  What customs do you have in your family that have been passed down from your ancestors?  On Christmas Eve, everyone in my family gets a new pair of pajamas to wear to bed.   My parents started this tradition, and I continue it with my family.  Do you have any new traditions or customs that you have created in your family?  What family traditions and customs do you think should be passed down to the next generation in your family?
