Matter is important because everything is made up of matter. Matter takes up space. There are three states of matter, which are solids, liquids, and gases. Each state of matter has its own properties. Shape, size, color, smell, and temperature are all examples of the properties. Matter also has mass, which is how much matter there is in an object. Matter can change and the changes are physical or chemical.
