Author BiographyAlyson L. Knapper
I began my teaching career in 1989 at Brainard Avenue Elementary School in Lake View Terrace (San Fernando Valley) in LAUSD as a 3rd grade teacher! I had no idea where my journey would take me but I am thankful for my adventures. I have been a teacher for 20 years mostly in Los Angeles Unified School District (3 years outside LAUSD in the Riverside area-RUSD and Alvord, but I missed the diversity of Los Angeles Students and Families). I have a Clear Multiple Subject Credential, Clear Moderate/Severe Credential, Clear Mild/Moderate Credential and Clear CLAD Credential. I have experiences in both general and special education curriculum, strategies and instructional practices. I also have a Masters in Special Education and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Special Education. I believe effort and knowledge are foremost for every student!!!! My general philosophy is there is no such word as non educable in my vocabulary or my classroom! Every experience in education is education! As Thomas Alvin Edison (who did not learn to read until age 13) stated: "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration"
