Task
Since our class has been learning about plants and organic gardening in Science, the
principle has asked us to research whether it would be possible to design a vegetable garden that would produce enough vegetables for the canteen.
Your task is to:
- Research vegetables that are used in the school canteen;
- Find out when they grow, how they grow and how to look after them;
- Choose 5 vegetables to plant;
- Decide what kind of garden you would like to build and where; and
- Ask the principle for permission to plant our sample garden.
You will then need to decide whether you think building a large vegetable garden for the whole school is a worthwhile project or not and present your opinion to the principle in a Power Point presentation, outlining both the positives and negatives of building a large vegetable garden.
Lastly, you will create a display book outlining your processes that will be available in the library for the staff, students and parents to look at.
Over the term you will look after the garden and record details relating to the growth of your plants and how many vegetables they produce. We will experiment with pest control to determine the effectiveness of organic methods and also look at the impact fertilisers have on growth and production.
By the end of this WebQuest, your group will:
- Demonstrate time management skills by adhering to your own timeline;
- Use graphic organisers to collect information and create appropriate graphic organisers.
- Have investigated and compared different vegetables and how they grow best;
-
Be able to choose a good location for a vegetable garden according to natural elements;
-
Know different ways to build a vegetable garden;
-
Design and plant a vegetable garden;
-
Know ways to decrease pests and diseases in your garden;
-
Understand that living things, such as plants, need constant care to survive;
-

-
Used at least three forms of Information Communication Technology - Kidspiration, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
-
Enhance your skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and use these to create a presentation;
-
