explore the thermal efficiency of the early and modern internal combustion engine.
Often times we teach the importance of engine tuning, replacing air filters, plugs etc. on a gas engine, proper and precise adjusting of valves and injectors on a diesel engine. But have trouble reinforcing the fact that how well we tune this engine will have a large effect on engine operation and customer satisfaction. This web quest will show how we have been struggling as an industry to improve efficiency even a small percentage. With much of any gains coming in the form of better air induction (valve adjust, air cleaner replace etc.) and ignition process ( ign. component replace , precise injector setting) things that the technician has direct control of.
