Conclusion

Great job working on your new edible delights!

However, you are not done yet.  Does your new candy require cocoa for the manufacturing of chocolate?

Chocolate is made from cocoa.  But the farmers who grow cocoa are usually far removed from the chocolate companies that sell it to us.  Because it is a rainforest plant, cocoa farms are located in tropical countries found in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Producing cocoa, however, requires the use of pesticides and high concentrations of fertilizer.  This has lead to health risks for farmers and the contamination of local soil and waters.

Then, please give a one page response (total) to the following questions in response to your readings:

1.   Why is it important for us to care about how cocoa  is produced?  Keep in mind the ideas of promoting the common good, advancing economic justice, empowering disadvantaged people, and creating global solidarity.

2.  How can you help to support "Fair Trade"?
