This problem-based project provides students with an opportunity to travel to a distant part of the United States. Students will explore the regions animals, climate, and a major attraction. Students will also calculate some of the costs of a vacation.

Introduction

Summer vacation is right around the corner and your mom asked you to plan a trip somewhere in the United States.  You can't believe it!  Finally, you get to decide where to go! If you do your work right and mom likes your travel plans, you can bring a friend.  You know there is a catch. What could it be?

Your mom made a few rules, but isn't that what moms are for?  Mom is tired of this rainy, humid weather so she wants you to pick a place that is nothing like New Jersey.  She wants to experience a different region of the United States. She also wants to visit at least one attraction.

Your mom can only take one week off of work.  You want to get the most out of this vacation so you decide to leave on a Friday night and return home the following Sunday.

You are so excited to travel but where do you want to go?  What would you love to see and do on your summer vacation?  You have a lot of planning...so get to work!
