This webquest begins with student research of masks from around the world. Students will work with the idea that masks can be symbols of the inner and outer worlds we inhabit as well as a tool for transformation. Students will create a paper mache mask, a paragraph explaining the symbolism in their creation, and an original poem.

Introduction

The Masks We Wear

You will be researching masks from around the world, giving attention to the purpose of masks, symbolism of color and design, and how masks reflect human identity and culture.

After researching masks, you will create a paper mache mask of your own to reflect some aspect of your identity.

After you decorate your paper mache mask, you will write a paragraph explaining how the mask reflects your identity.  You will also create an original poem.
