Introduction
To Kill a Mockingbird WebQuest
This WebQuest is designed to help the students to create some prior knowledge about life during the 1930's before diving into the book. The students will be able to better understand the attitudes, beliefs, and common ways of the time the book is set in. The students will do enough research on the time period to construct their own newspaper that reports on the big events and happenings of the 1930's.
There are many things that happened during the 1930's that have a direct connection with the book and could have been used as an inspiration for Harper Lee when writing the book. Many of the topics and themes that are discussed in the book are still issues today and while doing research on the 1930's the students should see some connections between their own lives and the time period of the book. Creating background knowledge on the 1930's will also help the students get into the right frame of mind to read the book and will better understand the issues and themes that are prevalent throughout the book.
