Over this experiment, we have learned a few things. In order for an animal to be an insect it has to have these things:

 Six legs. (Although caterpillars look like they have more than 6 legs, the first 6 are true legs that it can move, the rest are "false" abdomen legs that help it move around.)

3 body parts - a head, thorax, and abdomen (It may be hard to individually identify these on an insect, but they are there.)

An exoskeleton (The usually hard outer shell, and no bones inside.)

Metamorphosis- All insects go through a process called Metamorphosis. Do you know if your insect turns into another form, or do you know if it has already grown from another form?

These factors justify whether the animal you have captured is an insect or not! Did you succeed?
