 Here are your roles:

(Each team member will be assigned a role for which s/he will be responsible.)

How is the way we treat our environment related to the way we treat each other?  You can find these answers by clicking the links:

#1    We have talked about similes in language arts class. Carl Hiaason uses many similes in the book Hoot.  As you know, similes are figures of speech in which two unlike things are compared by using like or as.

Some examples of similes in the book Hoot are:

Page 100 - He had quickness and brains on his side, but Dana was big enough to crush him like a grape.

Page 102 - It was amazing how rapidly schools emptied after the final bell, as if someone pulled the plug under a giant whirlpool.

Find at least four more examples of similes in Hoot.  This means each of you should find at least one to include in your PowerPoint.  Be sure to note the page upon which you find each one.  You will need these for your PowerPoint.

#2  Beatrice wrote a letter to the Mother Paula Company telling them about the plight of the burrowing owls. Each of you will write a letter telling how you feel about a particular endangered species. It does not have to be owls.  Include why you think it is important to protect this endangered or threatened species. Each team member should write a letter.  Turn this letter in to your language arts teacher when you have completed it.  Don't forget to proofread and edit.

#1  A  scientist often looks  for relationships among species to determine if there is a balance between each species so all may exist. Give an example that explains each type of symbiosis: commensalism, parasitism, and mutualism.

#2  Compare and contrast the burrowing owl's habitat and its ecosystem.

#3 Since graphing is an important aspect of the scientific process, you will need to see Ms. Calhoun for the next part of your quest.  She will provide you with materials and information.
