Introduction

West Vincent Elementary would like to invite an author of Young Adult Literature to visit the school and speak with our intermediate students on Read Across America Day, which takes place in the beginning of March.  The West Vincent faculty and administration are interested in finding a well-respected author whose work especially appeals to students in grades four through six.

Who, then, is better to select the visiting author than you, our sixth grade students?  You are the oldest students in the building, and you are familiar with many fantastic authors. Plus, as we all know, you can be very persuasive when you really want something!  Of course, your selection will need to be approved, so here are some key questions to consider as you begin your quest for the perfect author:

1)    How does an author appeal to various audiences?

2)    Are there writing styles, themes, or subjects that specifically appeal to intermediate students?

3)    How do adults and kids evaluate authors and writing differently?
